Yes that’s right I stayed up until midnight to play Borderlands 2 just as soon as it was released. So far, so awesome! With any game that has a substantial amount of hype there is also undoubtedly worry. But borderlands 2 thus far has conquered all of those fears with gusto and style.

If I’m being honest this has happened almost by accident. I’ve had a long and very strange day but it has come to an end with me sat in front of the computer and suddenly realising that Borderlands 2 has just officially launched on Steam. Well what can an honest gamer do? That’s right, game! So I booted up (after enduring some confusing patching) and took my first bite at Bl2.

Now if you’ve played Borderlands you will know that the game follows this formula – Inspiring intro->unique graphics->repeatable gameplay. Essentially this format made the first instalment stand out from the ground. This was in no small part also to do with a healthy sense of humour instilled throughout the game. And you will be happy to read that in this latest release none of that humour has been lost, neither has the epic introduction to the game or unique graphics. But what has happened is a profound trademark. Borderlands 2 takes up the mantle that Borderlands had only begun to craft and states in no uncertain terms the intent that games must be made in a cinematic immersive fashion.

From the moment you begin your campaign the statement is clear “This is a FILM” and it will have the suspense, immersion, draw and theatrics that any film would have. Perhaps the problem has always been that gamers lack a attentive attention span. I ponder this possibility while at the same time dismissing it, because I know as you do that it takes a mind capable of immense attentive capabilities to enjoy games such as final fantasy, dungeons and dragons or dues ex (the classics).

Okay so if we are being fair then we may at this point say that many games have made the mature adventure into creative storytelling alongside quality gameplay. But the point with Borderlands 2 is this: storytelling we have seen before in games has been captivating, but what is on offer today is a block busting cinematic tale. That along with gripping narrative and stunning visuals will also offer you the opportunity to bust some caps. The legacy of Bl2 will be a new frontier for games that wish to stamp themselves as ‘story driven’ and that can only be a positive thing.

As promised I bring you a look at Planetside 2 beta. One of the many videos promised in our recent Podcast.

In this video I take a quick surface look at the game and some of the basic principals within it. Hopefully this will give those of you who have not heard of the franchise a basic idea of what it’s all about. The backbone of this game is team play, you can see  a lot of it going on just in this short clip. In future videos I will bring you a more in depth look at the equipment and vehicles within the Planetside universe.
